Economic Crime Around the World


With increasing geekdom, that will be talked about in tomorrow’s blog, comes an increasing ability to spy on each other. Now, I believe that if you don’t have anything to hide, you shouldn’t be afraid of being captured by the camera on the corner, and as far as I know I don’t have anything to hide. But “big brother” isn’t always the government trying to help us, he is sometimes someone who is trying to harm us.
This infographic shares economic crime trends around the world. At one point in history the only way to steal anything was to physically do it, or to hire someone to physically do it. Now, you don’t have to step out of your house to steal money from someone across the world. The same technology that allows us to bank on the way to work allows people steal the money we are working so hard to make.
Spend some time sharing, without scaring or informing your students, ways that predators can steal their identities. Teach them ways to stay safe and things to be wary of. Just like no bedtime and ice cream for dinner are options when someone gets out of their parents house, so are problems with online economic crimes.
