Browser Wars Graphic

I’m not sure exactly who would be interested in learning about the history of the browser wars, but what interested me about this visualization was it’s layout and the interactive aspects of the tool. This is, essentially, an example of the Axiis data visualization framework, an open source tool “designed for beginner and expert developers alike.” I can’t vouch for the beginner part, but they have some pretty impressive looking examples.

After being dazzled by the graphic, it occurred to me that it actually didn’t convey information very effectively. It is great as an example, but what’s wrong with it’s communication? This might be a good question for students, especially design students. How might they take the same data and convey it more effectively?
